This short story is the perfect size for a lunchtime read if you are looking for one. The premise? What happens when a woman finds out her high school crush is available? Does she go for it? There's only one problem-- all he wants is a one time, casual, sex only night.
There's not a lot of drama here, with the exception of her ex-boyfriend, who won't accept the fact they aren't together, and Brian's casual weekly "frienship"---in a longer book, it would have been good to develop both of those and throw more conflict into the story.
Ms. Michaels does a good job, however, in developing the two main characters--you see where they are coming from (especially Brian) and root for them to come together. I will definitely be on the lookout for more stories by Ms. Michaels.

MEET THE AUTHOR
Kenzie
Michaels resides in the Midwest with her husband, three children, and various
household pets. Her fifth-grade teacher showed this avid reader how to write
the stories swirling in her head, successfully unleashing her imagination upon
the written word.
Kenzie is the
'wild child' of author Molly Daniels. They cohabitate nicely inside the
brain of a woman in Indiana who's the mother of three and 'Aunt Molly' to the
entire neighborhood. A devout chocoholic, her hubby has learned to watch out
when the characters in her head take over and not get too upset when the
words are flowing and all concept of time is lost. (LOL)

LOL....I have my 30th next year and wonder if anyone will TALK to me, now that this has been released! When friends first discovered what I was writing, a few said to me, "Sweet, innocent YOU wrote THAT?" One said she literally fell off her chair when I sent her an excerpt And when I did walk into the reunion, our class clown grabbed me in a hug, repeated "Kenzie, Kenzie, Kenzie....I got nothin'!" and walked away. I announced, "Mark this day down in history! I have rendered Fred SPEECHLESS!"
DeleteJudith notes the short length in her review...While I don't think I'd read it during lunch, since I sometimes eat lunch at my desk in the Library, I DO love a quickie read in the evening before bed. Sometimes a very short read is all I can manage after a long work day!

Catherine, I have a 42K book called Teacher's Pet, also with Freya's Bower, and it's actually my best seller. If you're in the mood for something longer. I went through a period of time where I was lucky to turn out a 25K book.
DeleteI tried not to give the feeling of leaving things hanging; sometimes I'll read a short book and think, "But wait....what happens NEXT?" I tried to wrap things up so readers wouldn't feel 'cheated'. Make sense?
