Straight Chatting from the Library: Debra Dunbar

Debra Dunbar is here chatting at the Library as part of her Virtual Book Tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. Debra will be awarding an e-book copy of A DEMON BOUND (book 1 in the Imp Series) to a randomly drawn commenter at every stop, and a grand prize of a Kindle Fire with an ELVEN BLOOD book cover skin to one randomly drawn commenter during the tour (US ONLY).  Check out the other stops on her tour here: http://goddessfishpromotions.blogspot.com/2013/03/virtual-book-tour-elven-blood-by-debra.html

Q.  What is the favorite book you remember as a child?

A.  I loved the Nancy Drew series – I had every single one of them and read them multiple times.  I also really enjoyed the Meg series.  Anything with smart girls solving mysteries was a sure hit in my youth.

Q.  What is your favorite book today?

A. Today it’s Narrow Dog to Indian River by Terry Darlington.  I love how he tells of the people he meets and his experiences along a canal boat journey then lights it all up with a gentle, wry humor.  This is how I want to see the world around me – every single day.

Q.  What are you reading right now?

A. The Curse Merchant by J.P. Sloan (another indie author).  It’s a paranormal thriller in the style of the old detective novels.  It’s sooooo good!  Everyone should be reading it.

Q.  What books do you have on hold at the library?

A. My library habits are very peculiar.  I’ll go in with no idea what I want to read, pick an aisle and a shelf, and literally work my way down the aisle reading every book.  There have been some I haven’t finished, but I’ve found lots of amazing reads that way.

Q. Do you have any bad book habits?

A.  My husband says I make faces when I read.  Evidently I do this when I write too.  I think maybe my inner actress is trying to come out as I put myself into the scene.  My inner actress is evidently not very skilled though, because my family thinks it’s hysterical.

Q.  E-Reader or print? and why?

A. I love print books, but thanks to that Evelyn Wood Speed Reading class when I was 12, I devour novels at light speed.  They were filling up the house, overflowing the attic; the used book store was starting to lock the door when they saw me coming.  So I’ve transitioned to e-reader.  I’ve gotta say, it makes my suitcase a lot lighter when I travel!

Q. Dog-ear or bookmark? (don't worry—Librarian Judith won't hold it against you—much)

A. Shhhh – I’ve actually WRITTEN in my books.  With pen, mind you.

Q. Least favorite book you've read this year?

A. Applying Finance Methods to Global Human Resource Strategy, or something like that.  I’m still trying to scrub that one from my brain – ugh!

Q. When do you do most of your reading?

A. Usually while waiting for the kids at horseback riding, wrestling or baseball practice, etc.  In the summer, I’ll try to sneak in some reading time at the pool, and in the winter I always take my Kindle on the treadmill with me.

Q.  Favorite book to recommend?

A. I read the big dogs in the paranormal world – Estep, Harrison, Briggs, and Frost, but  I’m going to recommend everyone go on a blind date.  Pick that 187,564 on the paranormal romance bestseller list, or go into the library and grab something off a shelf.  It’s a big beautiful world out there in book-land, go try something new by someone you’ve never heard of.

MEET THE AUTHOR

Debra Dunbar lives on a farm in the northeast United States with her husband, three boys, and a Noah’s ark of four legged family members.  Her urban fantasy novels feature supernatural elements in local settings. In addition to A DEMON BOUND, SATAN’S SWORD, and ELVEN BLOOD, she has also published a short story erotica series titled NAUGHTY MOM.  Connect with her on Twitter @debra_dunbar on Facebook at debradunbarauthor, and on her website at http://debradunbar.com .

Sam may be the Iblis, but she is also an imp with a price on her head.  The powerful demon Haagenti won’t rest until she’s dragged back to Hel for “punishment”.  Sam knows she can’t face Haagenti and win, so when an Elf Lord offers to eliminate the demon in return for her help, Sam accepts.  It’s a simple job – find and retrieve a half-breed monster dead or alive.  But finding this demon/elf hybrid isn’t proving easy and time is running out.

  2. I admire your ability to just pick up and read something unknown, Debra. I'm not much of an adventurer when it comes to leaping into something without knowing what to expect. I'll have to work on that more. Though I have read your Imp series on a strong recomondation, and a little encouragement. I am pleased that I did, as they are a fun and exciting ride. Go Team Gregory!

  6. Sadly I gave all my Nancy Drews away when I went to college. I'm sure the little girl enjoyed them, but there are times I wish I still had them!
