Straight Chatting from the Library: Meg Benjamin, author of HAPPY MEDIUM

The author of Happy Medium, Meg Benjamin, has stopped by The Library to chat with us about books. Meg will be awarding the complete Ramos Family Trilogy: Medium Well, Medium Rare, and Happy Medium (all ebooks) to one randomly drawn commenter, so be sure to leave a comment or ask Meg a question. You can see the other stops on the tour here: http://goddessfishpromotions.blogspot.com/2013/12/virtual-book-tour-happy-medium-by-meg.html.

Welcome to The Library, Meg. Tell us about your current book in 10 words.

A ghost story with medium hero and psychic heroine

I love a good ghost story! What are you reading right now?

I’m on a Regency kick right now, reading Grace Burrowes and Sherry Thomas, and re-reading Barbara Metzger and Loretta Chase.

E-Reader or print? and why?

Both. I have a wonderful library a few blocks away where I check out lots of print books, but I also have my Kindle, which I take when I travel and use on the treadmill.

Favorite book you've read this year?

If I can include 2013, it would be Sherry Thomas’s Ravishing the Heiress. I read it in a day because I couldn’t put it down.

Adding it to my TBR list! When do you do most of your reading?

Early in the morning before my hubs is up and before I go to bed at night. I don’t really have time during the day.

I have to say, I completely understand lack of time to read. What's your favorite genre?

Romance in general—there are very few romantic subgenres I don’t enjoy.

Favorite book to recommend?

If it’s to someone who’s never read a romance, I usually recommend Jennifer Crusie’s Faking It or Welcome to Temptation. Both of them are stories that blow away preconceptions—and they’re very funny. For romance readers, I recommend Loretta Chase’s Lord of Scoundrels because of the wonderfully wry way it sends up romantic conventions.

Re-reader or not?

Absolutely! If you love a place, you can’t just visit it once.

What would make you not finish a book?

I have to like the characters. If the hero or heroine makes consistently silly choices or if they’re consistently wrong-headed, I may just give up.

Keep books or give them away?

Keep them if I love them. Give them away if I’m meh about them.

READ THE BLURB

Love is good for the soul… unless it’s one that you’re trying to exorcise.

Ray Ramos has a problem–the King William District mansion he and his business partner purchased for a fast renovation needs more work than expected. Ray could use a quick infusion of cash. Enter Emma Shea, assistant to Gabrielle DeVere, the star of American Medium. Gabrielle is looking for San Antonio houses to use for her televised séances, and Ray’s fixer upper seems to fit.

When Gabrielle does a sample séance, Ray and Emma become the target of a touchy ghost with no respect for boundaries. After Ray learns his family has a special affinity for ghosts, the two decide to investigate the haunted house. It doesn’t hurt that Emma is immediately attracted to the laconic Ray or that Ray is intrigued by the buttoned-down beauty who seems determined to hide her considerable assets behind sober business suits. But can the two of them fight off a vengeful succubus bound to the house while getting a lot closer than either of them planned?
