Straight Reading from the Library: The Zoastra Affair by Victoria Pinder

One of the favorite genres here at The Library is science fiction, so I was very excited when I found that this book was up for review as part of a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. Victoria will be awarding a $10 Amazon GC to a randomly drawn commenter during the tour, so check out the Rafflecopter to see all the ways you can enter.

READ THE BLURB

A hundred years from now, Earth has trading partners with alien beings, mostly humanoid. However, going into space brought forth an unknown enemy who attacks Earth at will.

The Zoastra is part of the Earthseekers, an organization originally designed to go into space. Its new mission is to find Earth’s enemies.

Ariel is stuck on a Victorian planet and steals Grace’s body and life to get off the planet. Grace must get her body back before Ariel bonds with Grace’s husband, Peter. Then there is Cross, the man on a mission to find those who killed his family. Ariel is attracted to Cross, but she’s stolen someone’s life.

READ THE REVIEW

I really enjoy sci-fi books that deal more with relationships than straight science. And, this one certainly does that in spades. We have two couples featured: Grace and Peter, Ariel and Cross. How things work out for the four of them is the question of the day.

There is a lot of action along the way. I thought Peter a little too willing to make allowances for Ariel/Grace. I'm glad he finally convinced himself of the truth of the matter.

Arial and Grace-- I wanted to slap them both--Ariel more than Grace. I think I would have been behaving just like Grace had I been in that situation. And, Ariel should have spoken up earlier about the truth of the situation with her and Peter. I would have liked her better then.

All in all, if you like space soap operas (as I do), this is a book you'll enjoy. I could SO see this as a movie! 4 Stars.
MEET THE AUTHOR

Victoria Pinder grew up in Irish Catholic Boston before moving to the Miami sun. She’s worked in engineering, after passing many tests proving how easy Math came to her. Then hating her life at the age of twenty four, she decided to go to law school. Four years later, after passing the bar and practicing very little, she realized that she hates the practice of law. She refused to one day turn 50 and realize she had nothing but her career and hours at a desk. After realizing she needed change, she became a high school teacher. Teaching is rewarding, but writing is a passion.

During all this time, she always wrote stories to entertain herself or calm down. Her parents are practical minded people demanding a job, and Victoria spent too many years living other people’s dreams, but when she sat down to see what skill she had that matched what she enjoyed doing, writing became so obvious. The middle school year book when someone wrote in it that one day she’d be a writer made sense when she turned thirty.

When she woke up to what she wanted, the dream of writing became so obvious. She dreams of writing professionally, where her barista can make her coffee and a walk on the beach, can motivate her tales. Contemporary romances are just fun to write. She’s always thinking whose getting hurt and whose story is next on the list to fall in love. Victoria’s love of writing has kept her centered and focused through her many phases, and she’s motivated to write many stories.

  1. Thank you! Grace was my original heroine. And honestly I'd have been tempted to throw Ariel out into space and let her die if I had been Grace... the fact she has no violent thoughts meant she was more ladylike than I'd have been. And Ariel... I couldn't write the book if she just stayed evil. I tried and the book wouldn't write. But it was fun to play with the question, how far would you go if someone stole your life and your body? The honest answer for me is after all this, I'm still not sure. But it's a fun what if... What would you do?

  5. I don't think I have ever read a space opera but will have to check this one out. I think I would do everything to get it back. I spend my news years reading but parties are nice, you know getting together with friends and having a few drinks. Entering under the name of Virginia
