Straight Chatting from the Library: Liza O'Connor

Liza O'Connor is coming to us through the efforts of Goddess Fish Promotions who is organizing a book tour for her. Liza has some interesting prizes to give away-- one lucky commenter will win a $25 Amazon GC at the end of the tour. Also, one random commenter at blog stops will receive: $5 Amazon GCs, tattoos like Casey’s, or offer to place tattoos like Casey’s on a jpg picture supplied by winner.  Prizes are different at each stop so make sure you comment often and follow this tour. The prize here is a chance to have your photo tattoo'd like Casey's. The stops can all be found here: http://goddessfishpromotions.blogspot.com/2013/01/virtual-book-tour-saving-casey-by-liza.html.

WANT TO HEAR FROM OUR GUEST?

Tell us about your current book in 10 words.

An old woman dies and awakens in a teen’s body.

2       What are you reading right now?

I’m in the midst of editing two of my stories for publication right now (Worst Week Ever and Ghost Lover) so I’ve no time to read. However, on the top of my TBR pile is Wool. By Hugh Howey. It’s a postapocalptic thriller. Hugh’s enjoying the success we all dream about, going from an inde-published book to a best seller, a 6 figure print deal with Simon & Schuster, retention of his ebook rights, International success, and he’s sold the film rights to Alien producer Ridley Scott. Since I have a whole unpublished postapocalptic series, I want to read his book to see if his voice his similar or very different than mine.

3       E-Reader or print? and why?

I prefer the e-reader because it remembers where I left off, I can carry all my books with me so I can choose a book to match my mood, and I can increase the size of the print if my eyes get tired. What I don’t like about the ereader is sometimes when I push the page forward it moves it two forward.

4      One book at a time or multiples?

Pre-ereader, I always read one at a time. However, the ereader makes it so easy to remember where I left off, that I admit, I’ve begun reading by my mood. So I have 3 going right now.

5       Dog-ear or bookmark? (don't worry—Librarian Judith won't hold it against you—much)

I would never, ever, dog-ear a real book, not even a paperback.  I consider that a criminal offense up there with laying the book open, face down so the back breaks.  I will use a bookmark, a receipt, a post it, a flattened gum wrapper (clean), even lint from my pocket before damaging the book.

6      When do you do most of your reading?

When I’m waiting in line for something, riding the train, or exercising in the basement. However once spring shows up, I’ll wander outside with a book and spend hours in my garden. I’ll claim to be gardening, but gardening is back breaking work requiring a great deal of resting.

7     Do you loan your books?

No. If a friend doesn’t return my book within a month I get antsy. If they actually lose it or keep it forever, I get resentful. I don’t like being upset with my friends, so I stopped loaning books. If it’s really good, I’ll encourage them to buy a copy to support the author.

How do you keep your books organized?

My favorite books I organize by genre and alphabetically by author name. That way, when the mood strikes me, I re-read the entire series by a favorite author. And every time I reread a book, I find something new to like.

9      What would make you not finish a book?

I like a book that moves along quickly and lacks predictability.  If I can tell where it is going and it’s dragging it’s ass by describing a garden in excruciating detail, I’ll start skimming. However, if I have to skim ten pages to return to the plot, I might stop.

Honestly, it’s been awhile since I’ve read a coma-inducing book. The last one, and I did give up on it, was when I stayed with a friend and tried a ‘high brow literary’ book from his shelves.  I must have gone through six books before I gave up and declared his library unreadable.  That’s why I always bring an ereader now when I visit friends.

Keep books or give them away?

On occasion when my bookshelves are double stacked and I can no longer find anything, I’ll sort through and select the ones that weren’t that good and send them off to the Book Barn (local place to donate books). I know they’d prefer to receive my really good books, but I don’t want to part with them. They are worth rereading.  However, books are like my children. It’s hard to send them off, even the ones that  aren’t as good.

Thanks for stopping by and chatting with us about books!

WONDER WHAT THE BOOK IS ABOUT?

Eighty-year-old Cass wakes up in the body of a troubled seventeen-year-old girl named Casey, which all believe has survived a suicide attempt. Cass intends to turn the girl’s life around, only it’s harder than she expects. All Casey’s troubles have now become Cass’s and someone wants her dead.

WANT TO MEET THE AUTHOR?

I live in Denville, NJ with my dog, Jess. We hike in fabulous woods every day, rain or shine, sleet or snow. Having an adventurous nature, I learned to fly small cessnas in NJ, hang-glide in New Zealand, kayak in Pennsylvania, ski in New York, scuba dive with great white sharks in Australia, dig up dinosaur bones in Montana, sky dive in Indiana, and raft a class four river in Tasmania. I’m an avid gardener, amateur photographer, and dabbler in watercolors and graphic arts. Yet through my entire life, my first love has and always will be writing novels. I love to create interesting characters, set them loose, and scribe what happens.

  1. I'm wondering if Casey is aware or completely taken over?

    1. Mary, the former Casey has truly died and gone to a better place. She was gone before Cass arrived. Her body had been kept alive by artificial means. This book examines the poor girl's life and how New Cass then struggles with the same problems. You will laugh, cry, and yell at characters. Per almost every reviewer, you can't put it down until its done.

And until April 6th, Amazon has it on for half price

  6. I know what you mean about people who dog-ear a book or lay the book open face down. It really annoys me when I see that. I'm very careful with my books and when I finish reading they look brand new.

    1. I used to scold my dad over his treatment of books he would lay them open face down break the spines and since the were paperbacks, then the pages would fall out. He was the first person I stopped lending to.

  7. Note to my dear Hostess: If you want to remove all those annoying lines, go to your HTML
    copy all the code,
    paste to word
    Do search for background-color: white;
replace all with a blank space
then copy code and paste it over your old code.

    Takes less than a minute

What was your favorite part in writing this book?

    1. Because I love to laugh, the first section when Cass is discovering her absurdly bizarre new life was the most fun to write. Later in the book, I cried and I hate to cry, but my stories go where my characters and events take them. But I won't let them stop until I have a happy ending.

  10. I have a hard time with e-readers . Sure, I get to carry my entire library with me...but for some reason I take FOREVER to read ebooks when I would get them done in hours if they were in print...
