STRAIGHT CHATTING FROM THE LIBRARY: LORI RYAN

Lori Ryan came to The Library to chat with us as part of her tour with Goddess Fish Promotions---she's got an awesome giveaway for one lucky commenter -- the pictured Giana Bernini Handbag. (US ONLY) To see the other stops on the tour (and get more entries), go to http://goddessfishpromotions.blogspot.com/2013/05/virtual-nbtm-tour-penalty-clause-by.html.

Thanks for stopping by, Lori. What are you reading right now?
I’m in the middle of Catherine Bybee’s FiancĂ© by Friday and I just finished Three Little Words by Susan Mallery. They’re both books in a series; I tend to gobble up series as fast as I can. When I first started reading romance novels, I found the Virgin River Series by Robyn Carr. I plowed through the entire series as fast as I could. Imagine my surprise when I found out most series won’t have 25 or more books in them for me! Ms. Carr set me up with some pretty high expectations, I’m afraid.

Do you have any bad book habits?
I read far too much. I read on my phone or on my kindle so I can grab my book in the line at the grocery store, when my son is playing on the floor, while I’m cooking dinner, or anytime. It drives my family a little nuts.

E-Reader or print? and why?
E-reader for fiction but print for non-fiction. I go through far too many fiction books a week to buy them in print and I like to be able to hold a book in one hand and flip the pages with my thumb. I also like to be able to change the font size so I can see it more easily. With non-fiction, I like to have a paper copy to look through and really feel and see it.

One book at a time or multiples?
Multiples, unless something grabs me and doesn’t let me go until I reach the end.

Dog-ear or bookmark? (don't worry—Librarian Judith won't hold it against you—much)
Yikes! I’m a dog-earer. That’s not a word, is it? I dog-ear the daylights out of books. I also bend back the spines and have no problem taking a book into the bathtub. When I was a teenager, I would take books and float them in the water while I read. I’d peel back each wet page and they’d dry all wrinkly and weird. That was a little too much information, wasn’t it?

Oh, dear. Librian Judith may have nightmares tonight ;-). Favorite genre?
Romance. I hardly read anything else. Within the genre, I read mostly contemporary and suspense and a little erotica. I occasionally grab a historical or a western.

What would make you not finish a book? Poor editing. I’m a big supporter of indie-authors, but I hate it when I can tell that the author didn’t even ask friends to edit the book. I personally think hiring editors is crucial for indie-authors. My books do have a few errors and I work to catch them and correct them when I can, but they don’t go out the door without editing from both friends and professional editors.

About the Author:
Lori is an award winning author and stay-at-home mom. Her second book, Penalty Clause, won first place in the romance category in Lcuky Cinda Publishing’s Annual Global Writer’s Contest in 2013.

Lori has had a number of careers before embarking on her newest adventure of writing novels. After graduating from the University of Connecticut School of Law, she practiced law for three years, working primarily in the areas of utilities law and intellectual property litigation.

More recently, Lori owned and operated a dog training business in Austin, Texas, where she specialized in aggression and became an expert in the field of dog bite analysis. Lori sold her dog training business in 2013 and is now a full time writer and mother of two.

Lori still lives in Austin with her husband -- who is endlessly supportive of her changing career paths -- and her two children, one cat, and three dogs.

To keep her, he'll have to gamble it all!

Andrew Weston and Jill Walsh had to be the two most unlikely people to fall in love. When Jill's first husband's love for her simply fizzled and died, Jill knew she'd never trust that love could last again. After Andrew's first love betrayed him in the most brutal way possible, he knew he might fall in love again someday, but there was no way he'd ever make himself vulnerable again by confessing those feelings if he did.

Fate had a different ending in mind for these two, though, and when Andrew discovers his love for Jill, he knows the only way to get her to stay with him forever is to offer her an iron clad penalty clause in a prenuptial agreement. He stays with her forever or he loses everything he owns. The millions he's worked for, his property, his cars, everything. Now he just needs to hope that's enough to hold onto Jill forever.

Five out of Five Stars "Lori Ryan has done it again...I am just drawn in. On the hook. I want to know what is going to happen next. There were times when I really was physically holding my breath!"

Five out of Five Stars "I've been waiting for this book and wasn't disappointed. Great story and great characters. Andrew is sexy and steamy and hot!"

  1. I loved the interview, blurb, and the doggies! They are adorable. This book sounds awesome. I have added it to my TBL along with the first one in the series. kbinmich@yahoo.com

  2. I actually love long series as well. It runs the risk of the author "losing steam" and kind of writing the same book over and over again, but when the author stays great and has a story to tell, 25 books is nothing! One of my favorite series has 39 books and counting!
