Straight Chatting from the Library: Interview with Caine Maddox

Taylor Lunsford, author of the Love in Unknown series, stopped by The Library with an interview with Caine Maddox, hero of Need You Now taken from the Merna’s Matches Blog, home for all things gossip in Unknown. Leave a comment for a chance to win a $24 Amazon gift card.

What’s your favorite part of being mayor of Unknown?

There are a lot of great things about the job. The Mayor Mobile was pretty special. I think the Garden Club is working on plans to replace it, God help me. Mostly I like being a part of the place that’s been so important to my family for so many years. My great-great whatever grandfather founded the town to have a place to raise his family with his new wife, and I kinda like the symmetry of me being mayor, getting ready to marry the love of my life.

Do you prefer to spend the evening at home or out on the town?

If you’d asked that a couple of years ago, I’d say on the town. Now? Well, after a long day at the clinic, Mel’s a big fan of cuddling up on the couch together with some wine. Thank God she’s a baseball fan. It definitely saves on fights over the remote.

Is there such a thing as love at first sight?

Hell. That’s a hard one to answer. For some people, sure. The story goes my great grandpa fell in love with his bride, Susan, the first time he saw her on the wagon train down to Texas. Emma Carr claims that it was love at first sight for her and Ethan. I guess you could say it was love at first sight with me and Mel, although not in the traditional sense. I’ve known her most of our lives, but I think I started to fall in love with her the first time I saw her in college. I thought I was meeting up with an awkward kid. Instead, I found a gorgeous, sexy woman. God, she was a knock out. Still is.

Are you a fan of pet names in a relationship?

Heh. In any other relationship? Hell no. But Mel’s been my sunshine since she was four. She always lights up a room. That’s what makes her such an amazing doctor. Even when she’s giving bad news, she’s warm and compassionate and steady.

To read or not to read?

While I don’t read as much as my fiancĂ©e, I definitely like to read. My favorite is probably David Copperfield by Charles Dickens. I also have a weakness for Stephen King, but they freak Mel out so much she won’t even let me leave them lying around the bedroom.

What’s your favorite song?

My brother’s probably going to take away my man-card for saying this, but As Time Goes By by Louis Armstrong. It’s been our “song” since college. Even when we were apart, I would sometimes catch myself listening to it and missing Mel like crazy and kicking myself for being such an idiot to ever let her go.

How do you feel about grand gestures?

My brother and Micah say I’ve screwed up the curve for everyone else, but when I was winning Mel back, I needed to go balls to the wall. I put it all out there. Our first few dates were pretty extravagant. Mel still teases me about them. And I had to make a big deal out of the proposal. Mel deserved to be wooed and spoiled a little after what a jerk I was the first time around.

Everybody knows how great you are with kids. Do you plan to have any some day?

Absolutely. We may wait a year or so after the wedding, but kids have always been in the cards. Until then, we’ll practice with Mel’s nephew Jax, if we can ever get Micah to loosen up and go out and have some fun.

You’ve always been close to your brother, Gage, and your future brother-in-law, Micah Carr. Ever see the two of them settling down?

Hmm. Well, I hope they do. Micah’s been through a lot of crap over the last few years, but I think he and Jax need a woman in their lives. As for my brother, who knows? He seems to enjoy the attention from the Fan Club for now, so we’ll have to wait and see about him.

MEET THE AUTHOR

Taylor is a hopeless romantic who spends her days working for a great company and her nights/weekends doing the job of her heart. A devout follower of the Jane Austen school of thought, she’ll put her characters through a little trouble, but they’ll eventually have their happily ever after. She’s still searching for her prince charming, but she knows he’s out there, so she’ll content herself with fictional ones for now.

READ THE BLURB

My first three novels will be released through Naked Reader Press in 2013, along with a short story, as part of the Love In Unknown series. I’m excited to introduce readers to the small (fictional) town in Texas called Unknown. Located in the Texas Hill Country, Unknown was founded by the Maddox Family in the 1800s.

My Love In Unknown series starts off with the story of sexy mayor Caine Maddox and the new town doctor – and Caine’s college sweetheart- Melody Carr. Sparks fly between these two as Caine fights to convince Mel he’s no longer the selfish playboy he was in college while Mel struggles to convince the people of her hometown that she’s there to stay.

Next up, we meet Mel's yummy brother Micah, the town baker and newcomer Cady Saunders, a runaway bride who steals Micah's heart.

Finally, we get to know Caine's brother Gage, the big bad police chief of Unknown who finds himself falling for fashion designer Tessa Styles and the cute little baggage she brings along with her.
