What group did you hang out with in high school?

I ask myself that questions every now and again. Either I didn’t go to a high school that named their cliques or I didn’t see everyone that way. Initially I was a bit of a floater. I had a close friend and kind of spent time with everyone. Later, towards the end of high school there was a large group of kids I ate lunch with every day. We’d pass the hour having these really odd conversations about just about everything. We’d talk and debate the merits of religion, politics, college vs university, growing up, Star Trek vs Star Wars, art and abstract concepts. I miss those conversations some days.

What are you passionate about these days?

I am in survival mode. My family is juggling a lot of extras these days. So my passion is directed towards fitting everything I need to get done into the day, the only thing that outweighs this is sleep.

If you had to do your journey to getting published all over again, what would you do differently?

I have really enjoyed my journey so far. Though if I had to change one thing, I think I’d have liked to shop The Becoming around to a few publishers to see what the outcome would have been. I was anxious to see the story finally get off its feet and really wanted Christopher Pew to do the art work. I didn’t want someone else to take over the creative on this piece. I didn’t want someone to tell me that we shouldn’t include illustrations or that we should use another artist. I had a strong vision and I wanted to see it through.

Ebook or print? And why?

Overall, my personal preference is print. I like sharing and passing on my books once I’ve finished reading them. That being said, I do own an Ereader and I love taking them on vacation. When I have the time I can devour books. On a week’s vacation I can read three or four books. Having them on an Ereader makes travel a little lighter.

What is your favorite scene in this book?

There is something about the opening scene in The Becoming that I really enjoy. It’s clear to me and sets the tone for the rest of Niamh’s story. The first step on a journey.

He closed the doors behind him and, without saying a word, beckoned me toward him. I knew what was to come next. This was a test. He had his fill while away, last night included. He had no pent-up desires, as was often the case when he was home for too long, when he couldn’t risk his local reputation doing what he liked best on any flesh but my own.

He eyed me suspiciously. “I have a gift for you.” He hinted toward his inner coat pocket with a tap of his finger. “Do you deserve what I brought for you?”

He was taunting me, treating me like the shallow puppet he thought I was. He believed I longed for him to come home with pockets filled with trinkets. If he only knew that what I longed for was for him to stay away.

“I have done nothing to deserve your mistrust.” I mustered up.

Motioning with his finger, he directed me to turn around and I obliged. Even with my back to him, I felt him approach. I swallowed the dread. After years of his advances, I should have built up a defense, but my arsenal only contained an off switch. Once the fear had been pushed down, I could become his doll. A barely-breathing version of myself, unwilling but able to do as she was told, if only to save herself the repercussions disobedience would entail.

I watched as though from above as he used his body, now pressed against mine, to guide and bend me over the writing desk. He put a hand on my head and forced it to the side, pinning me. With the other found a ‘sweet spot’ at the base of my neck, above my shoulder bone, and pierced it with his tool. Briefly losing my distance from this moment, I cried out in surprise. I had forgotten the sharpness of this exchange. His lips fenced in the flow of blood and as he tasted me. Every now and again, he would attempt to torment me with a whisk of his tongue. Pressing into my back was the gift hidden in his pocket. I recognized the shape of it immediately. A bottle of perfume. What else would he bring me from Paris, from anywhere? It was what he always brought me.

MEET THE AUTHOR

Born in Dundas, ON, Lilith Thorn is a restless wanderer. Her first move was to St. Catharines where she earned a Theatre degree at Brock University. Despite her parents’ wish that she would return home and work at McDonalds after graduating, Lilith refused and instead moved to Toronto to give acting the ‘Old College Try.’ After years of sacrificing her other passions for the stage and an empty bank account, she put away those dreams to say “Yes” to a different adventure. This took her to Dublin, Ireland for a few years where she met, fell in love with, and married another Canadian who took her to the one place she said she’d never live: Yellowknife. After nearly a decade in Canada’s Great White North, Lilith looks forward to further adventures with her husband and two children, just about anywhere.

Lilith Thorn is a pen name, the pseudonym used to protect the innocent; that is, so she hopefully never has to explain to her mother-in-law over dinner that she has written an erotic novel.

Writing for an Anthology

I like to participate in Anthologies. For Authors it is a great way to network and cross promote. I have participated in several and all have been very refreshing. For one thing it gives you a topic that you might never have thought about before. You get to meet other authors and learn more about their work.

I think being asked to contribute to an Anthology is an honor and I participate whenever I have time. One book I did was a cookbook. We had to take a recipe from one of our stories and tell about it. My recipe was for Rabbit Stew. (I write westerns) It did not go over well with some of the more sensitive writers…

The hardest thing I ever had to write was for an Anthology called Love Letters. You had to a write a letter to someone that you lost. Love comes in all shapes and forms and I chose to write a letter to my Aunt Susie. We were very, very close and she died after along battle with Kidney disease. So I told her what I had always wanted to tell her but never found the time.

Time is such a precious gift. And so many, many people waste it. She taught me to live and follow my dreams and it is because of her that I write.

DCL Anthologies are much more fun! Who hasn’t thought about being in a fairytale! And to create and control your own fairytale is even better. I always enjoy working with Jae El and Miriam. And I think that everyone deserves a Happy Ever After.

As a reader, I normally prefer full length novels, but Anthologies give you a snippet of different authors writing styles so that you can look up their other books. You can discover authors that you never heard of before.

They are also good if you just need a quick read. And who doesn’t like a quickie once in a while?

READ THE REVIEW

Well written and engaging, Luke's Redemption kept me interested from start to finish.

The author introduces a great set of characters in the book -- I love Luke, and Katya grew on me with some time. Gray was awesome (as were King and the rest of the crew). I really appreciate a book with strong secondary characters, and this fit the bill. I am looking forward to reading their stories.

I have to admit, I don't usually read erotic romance, but this one sounded interesting, so I opted to give it a try. Though I skimmed over the sex scenes, the story is solid without them and for those who look for books that include plenty of heat, this is the best of both worlds.

I was glad I got to read this book... Anni Fife is a talented author whose writing I very much enjoyed. 4 stars.

I snuggled deeper into the cosy bedding, lazy and heavy-limbed. Shifting slightly, warmth spread through me as the slight stickiness between my legs brought with it delicious memories of the night before. I never dreamed that I could be so wanton, so wildly desperate for one man’s touch.

And boy, did he touch! His potency evident in every aching muscle in my body.

Mmmm. Heat flickered as his musky scent infused my senses.

“Katya.”

I loved his voice. Especially when he said my name, so deep, rich like dark molasses.

“Katya!”
