Straight Chatting from the Library: Collette Cameron

We are chatting about books at the library today with Collette Cameron who is touring her book Highlander's Hope with Goddess Fish Promotions. Collette will be awarding a gift basket that includes a 20.00 Amazon gift card, Cadbury Chocolates, Vintage-looking cameo pendant, Highlander's Hope bookmark, blue rose china teacup and demi-spoon, blue rose soaps, notepad--all assembled in an attractive vintage decor box to a randomly drawn commenter during the tours. To see the other stops on the tour go to http://goddessfishpromotions.blogspot.com/2013/02/virtual-book-tour-highlanders-hope-by.html.

Thanks, Collette, for stopping by! Books are our passion here, and we really appreciate you being willing to talk with us.

What is the favorite book you remember as a child?
The Laura Ingalls Wilder books. All of them.

E-Reader or print? and why?
I have an E-Reader that I use to read when I’m requested for a review. I really prefer print.
A real book is so much more comfortable. I can take it with me anywhere, easily open it up to the page I left off, and I like the smell of real books.

One book at a time or multiples?
Generally, one at a time.

Dog-ear or bookmark? (don't worry—Librarian Judith won't hold it against you—much)
Dog-ear most of the time, though I’ve been trying to train myself to use a bookmark. Old habits die hard and I really do prefer to dog-ear. I know, shame on me.

When do you do most of your reading?
In the evening.

Favorite place to read?
Snuggled in bed or in my writing room in my overstuffed chair. Naturally, the dachshunds have to be on my lap or snuggled nearby.

Favorite genre?
I really adore historical romance, but Regencies especially.

What would make you not finish a book?
If the pace is too slow or I find some of the contents offensive, I might not finish a book. I’m pretty stubborn about finishing a book once I start it but there have been a few occasions when I just wasn’t interested enough in the story to finish it.

Keep books or give them away?
If it’s a book I really like and think I might re-read, I’ll keep it. Otherwise, I pass it on for someone else to enjoy.

READ THE BLURB
Not a day has gone by that Ewan McTavish, the Viscount Sethwick, hasn't dreamed of the beauty he danced with two years ago. He's determined to win her heart and make her his own. Heiress, Yvette Stapleton, is certain of one thing; marriage is risky and, therefore, to be avoided. At first, she doesn't recognize the dangerously handsome man who rescues her from assailants on London's docks, but Lord Sethwick's passionate kisses soon have her reconsidering her cynical views on matrimony. On a mission to stop a War Office traitor, Ewan draws Yvette into deadly international intrigue. To protect her, he exploits Scottish law, declaring her his lawful wife—without benefit of a ceremony. Yvette is furious upon discovering the irregular marriage is legally binding, though she never said, "I do." Will Ewan's manipulation cost him her newfound love?

MEET THE AUTHOR

A life-long Oregonian, Collette Cameron was born and raised in a small town along the northern Oregon coast. Today she makes her home in a rural community, 30 minutes west of Portland. Her Victorian farmhouse sits on a one-acre certified wildlife habit, interspersed with a plethora of gardens: English, rose, butterfly, rock, water, and of course, vegetable.

A voracious reader of romance since her teens, she even named her daughter after a heroine in her favorite romance novel. An enthusiast of times gone by, and anything related to romance, she writes Historical Romance, with a dash of inspiration, a pinch of humor, and a liberal portion of suspense.

Having dabbled in interior decorating in her youth, Collette returned to school, graduating summa cum laude from Oregon State University, and going on to obtain her Master's Degree in Teaching. She is member of Romance Writers of America, Rose City Romance Writers, The Beau Monde, and Love Faith and Hope, Inc.

Some of Collette's favorite things include unique blends of coffees and teas, trivia, Cadbury Milk Chocolate, inspirational quotes, and scented candles. Her Christian faith, husband, three adult children, and five miniature dachshunds round out her life quite nicely! When she's not teaching or writing, she enjoys amateur photography, bird watching, gardening, interior decorating, rock-hunting, boating or fishing on the Columbia River, and reading.

  1. Great interview!

I used to be that person who had to have a " real book" in my hands. I love the smell of books, the feel and everything. Then I discovered the joys of e-readers. I can read on my iPad in the dark and not bug the Hubster. I can change the font size at will so I can see it without my contacts. And, they never get dusty, so I don't have to worry about an allergy attack either!

I really enjoyed HIGHLANDER'S HOPE, and wish you many, many sales. It's an excellent book--especially if you like Regency Romances!

    1. Meggan,
I can never get my ereader to cooperate with me! Yesterday the darn thing kept telling me there wasn't enough memory left. What, with only 20 books on it right now?

So glad you enjoyed Highlander's Hope. The second book will be out in September!

  2. Another lovely interview Collette! Though I had kind of been hoping that you were a multi-book reader like I am! I tend to be reading between 3 and 6 books at a time :P

  3. Andra, I can barely manage 2-3 books at a time! Right now I'm reading three. But one's in the car, and I only read it when I need to use up a few minutes of spare time.

  5. What a lovely interview, Collette. I dog ear as well. I've tried using book marks, but they always end up falling out or getting lost. Tweeted and FBd.

  6. Hi Colette.

As you know, I read Highlander's Hope and loved it. Can't wait for the next one.

I read one book at a time. When I start a story, I have to finish it, lose myself in it, especially if it's a great book. Like you, I rarely not finish a book, but will skim through to get to the end if I'm not enjoying it.

    1. I always feel guilty when I skim a book. I KNOW the hard work that author put into it. I confess, I've not finished 3 books this summer. But, with so many books that are to my taste, I don't want to focus on ones that I'm not really enjoying.

That doesn't mean there was anything wrong with the books, they just weren't for me. I'm learning that's okay, because my books aren't going to appeal to everyone either.

  7. Hello Collette. Little House on the Prairie is my favorite TV show and I own the books, too. As for Highlander's Hope and the next books, you know how I feel, love them. Glad I get sneak peeks. :)

  8. I'm downloading to my Kindle these days, but I'm still a paperback book lover. Don't think that will ever change. There's nothing like the smell of a book when you open to the first page and start to read. That action and scent are tied in my heart and brain like Pavlov's dog and the bell. I know I'm in for some get-a-way time. :)

    1. I use my Kindle a lot now, but I prefer a book in hand.

  9. I'm laughing at the "dog ear" comments! I used to dog ear my books but slipped up and dog eared my friends loaners a few times. Suddenly I got lots of bookmarks as gifts! Hmmm, coincidence?

Lovely interview, as always, Collette. I love your books!

    1. Thanks, Kate. I try not to dog ear, but I always end up doing it. Sigh.
