READ THE INTERVIEW

What is the favorite book you remember as a child?

I fell in love with adventure stories via Enid Blyton’s Famous Five. Five on a Treasure Island was my absolute favorite. I’ve still got my copy. I reread it a couple of years ago when we moved, and I had to cull my book shelves. It still held my attention, so I couldn’t give it away.

What is your favorite book today?

It’s almost always the book I am currently reading, which right now is On Bended Knee, The Wicked Worthingtons #6, by Celeste Bradley. However, it’s rivalled by Devil in Winter by Lisa Kleypas, Rough & Tumble by Rhenna Morgan, and Idol by Kristen Callihan. My long-term love is Brother of the More Famous Jack by Barbara Trapido, but the author took some of the shine off it with the follow up.

Tell us about your current book in 10 words.

Caitlin and Corey dance around past heartaches to find love.

Do you have any bad book habits?

You mean aside from reading when I’m supposed to be working, cooking supper or walking the dogs? And using my phone to hide the fact that I’m reading? And buying more books than I can read in the next 12 months? Nah, I don’t think so.

E-Reader or print? and why?

E-Reader for many reasons: the books are cheaper; the font is larger and easier to read; you can carry 1,000 books for less than the weight of one; and my purchases are for my eyes alone. Saves many a domestic argument.

One book at a time or multiples?

I often have multiple books on the go – an audio book for driving, an ebook for waiting rooms and bed, and, sometimes, a paperback that’s been loaned to me.

Favorite genre?

Romance, all sub-genres included.

Do you loan your books?

Only to friends I trust, and even then, only if losing the book would not crush my soul and cause a rift in the friendship!

Re-reader or not?

Rereading is one of the great pleasures of life. Every time I reread a book, I get something new out of it. Often, especially with a book I have been eagerly waiting for, I read greedily, desperate to know what happened. In the reread, I catch all the nuances that made me love that particular author in the first place.

What would make you not finish a book?

I used to finish everything I read but now, ‘as time’s winged chariot hurries near’, I have become more selective. If a book is boring or so technical my eyes glaze over, I’m unlikely to finish it. I also have no time for gratuitous violence and authorial disrespect toward any particular ethnicity, gender or group of people. My objection is to the author’s disrespect not the plot. There are unfortunately many villains with hateful attitudes, but on the page, I want to see reason and right triumph, so that readers are inspired not crushed or hurt.

READ THE BLURB

Licking her wounds after a bad relationship, San Diego accountant Caitlyn Summers travels to Willow Springs to help her friend gear up for the annual Maple Sugar Ball. She isn't planning on staying long, but one encounter with the delicious Corey Duncan has her re-evaluating her plans.

Corey swore off love when his wife Annie died from breast cancer. Caitlyn is too young, too citified, and vibrates with a passion and energy that will upend the safe, comfortable rhythm of his life. Corey has to choose between playing it safe and taking a risk on love. Caitlyn needs to find the patience to let Corey lead. If not, the Maple Sugar Ball might end in a sticky mess, instead of a slow dance with the man who has captured her heart.

Will their fire burn hot enough to erase doubts and past hurts?

READ AN EXCERPT

Caitlin took a fortifying sip of her coffee and welcomed the kick of the whisky. She had no interest in him. Her brain was in charge, and it knew what was good for her; she would go husband-hunting among the business men of San Diego. One of them must have a great body too. The devil on her shoulder snickered. You keep telling yourself that. Her ovaries agreed with the devil. Her angel, a by-the-book accountant and her internal guardian of rational thought, told them to keep quiet.

The older guy nodded at Annette. “Be there in a minute,” he mouthed.

Mr. Built looked over his shoulder, his eyes narrowed, and the intensity of his stare set sparks zinging in all of Caitlin’s unmentionable places. One corner of his mouth tilted up, and his eyes crinkled as if he knew exactly what he was doing to her. Rational thought sputtered to a halt and died.

“Who’s that?” Nope, her brain was not in charge, and her mouth clearly had a will and desires of its own.

“The guy behind the bar? Stan, the owner.”

Lynn chuckled. “Not him, Annette. The sparks are flying between your Cat and our Corey.”

“Really?” Annette’s eyes widened in enquiry.

Caitlin groaned. “No matchmaking. He’s just, you know…” She waved a hand in his direction and risked another look. One hundred percent man with a great ass. Her mouth watered. “Built.”

MEET THE AUTHOR

Laura Boon stole her first romance from her father’s bookshelves as a teenager, The Flame and the Flower by Kathleen Woodiwiss, and was immediately captivated. After holding a variety of positions in publishing, from bookseller to sales rep and publicist, she eventually found the courage to write her own stories. She was born in Zambia, grew up in South Africa, and went to university in America. She now lives in Australia with her husband and their adorable dogs Beau and Arro. When she is not reading or writing, she enjoys sleuthing for artisan chocolate and beautiful stationery, watching tennis, and walking alongside Sydney’s beautiful harbor.
